Lexus/Toyota 2019 Luxury Sports Model HMI Cockpit Design Concept

Automotive cockpit HMI (Human Machine Interface) has been drastically evolving with digital mediums, culture, and trends of how people are living. I have created this project to approach this challenging, yet very interesting problem solving.

This is a solution for one of three car model segments, Luxury Performance, who are enthusiasts with driving a car, with the possible release in 2019 with the technology available by then.

Instrument Cluster Design

Instrument Cluster design has been digitized and visually improved in many recent cars. However, what could be additionally enhanced, especially for this target audience for this car model segment, would be a feature to be able to switch the information hierarchy order of Speed, Gear Shift number, and RPM number. The driver will enjoy the driving experience and love the car even more with this new feature.

Dual Screen Mode – Instrument Cluster

A key point about the dual screen mode designing is to keep the information contents in an absolute minimum number. Keep it very simple for a driver to just scan the info.

Infotainment System Design

Inherited the existing look & feel design of the Lexus IS 2014 infotainment system, I have simplified UX/UI design and keep the same visual language from the instrument cluster design for a cohesive experience.

I also added a new feature idea which tracks your path in a topographical map point of view. (A very far left frame in the slide.) The line will extend out as you start driving and detect your past location by direction and land height.

HUD Design

HUD design has been out there, but the technology is not refined to its perfection yet. These new ideas and execution will require some new engineering, but I hope it to be doable by 2019.

  • Blind Spot Viewer (on the side as well as in the front)
  • Drive & Power Mode Indicator
  • Obstruction Warning Indicator
  • SNS & Phone Communication
  • Speedometer, Gear Shift, RPM Info Graphics
  • Music Info Graphic (or any other entertainment app played)

Integrated Mobile App Experience

Featured UX/UI design are:

  • Remote Engine Starter
  • Remote AC Starter & Climate Control Setting
  • Travel Plan & Navigation Sync
  • Compass for Searching Car
  • Security Info - Door Lock, Engine, Broken Windows, Trunk, Hood, etc.

Driving Data Sync & Download Capability

DataSyncWebAlbum.jpg

Create a new kind of trip album to add to your memory.

  • Save your driving stats from the time you start to end.
  • Retrieve the data to your Lexus account or directly download to your mobile devices through USB port.
  • Data includes photos taken with on-board cameras; front, rear, and interior, which can have unique views that you can not capture in a car with your own camera.
  • Lexus account has a capability to produce a web album on-fly with the data.
  • Share it with family and friends via SNS.
